The quest of a green, mean, fighting, filmmaking... dream?

Tiburon, San Diego, Bare Bones oh my!

It's been almost a month since my last blog post, and it's just because so much has been going on, I haven't found the time to write about it. Of course, that's a good thing.

I guess the BIGGEST most recent news is that Daddy I Do was accepted into the Bare Bones International Film Festival in Muskogee, Oklahoma (April 15-25)! This will be the 3rd festival for Daddy I Do. I've heard SOOO many good things about this festival, I'm absolutely floored that we got in! My Associate Producer and I will most likely be flying out to Tulsa on April 18th, and hopefully staying the whole second half of the festival. The only thing that would prevent me from being at the Bare Bones Awards Ceremony is if Daddy I Do gets accepted into the Las Vegas Film Festival or the Newport Beach Film Festival (I will be notified within the next 4 days), and both of those festivals are the exact same week as Bare Bones! I don't think we'll make it into Newport because that's a biggie, but maybe Las Vegas since I sent them a letter saying I'm from there and have a lot of friends and family there. We'll see. If not, I'm thrilled to be at Bare Bones the entire time! They have such a great reputation among filmmakers! Can't wait!!!

In other news, Faces Overlooked is getting geared up for the Tiburon International Film Festival (March 18-26)! We finally got our screening dates and times:
- Monday, March 22nd at 7pm
- Wedesday, March 24th at 3:30pm

Faces Overlooked will be screening in a showcase called "Marin Filmmakers" (8 films total), and all of the filmmakers will be present for a Q&A afterwards! I'm so excited, mainly to meet the other filmmakers in my hometown. I've only lived in Marin for about 8 months, and I still don't know very many people here, so it'll be a great opportunity.

Another cool thing that happened about 2 weeks ago was I got my first digibeta made for Faces Overlooked! What's even cooler than that is who made it... a good friend of mine works at Skywalker Ranch, and he offered to have the guys at ILM make my digibeta! So, I went to the Ranch, got a personal tour, saw where all the magic happens, even got to walk inside the main house (pictured right) where George Lucas' office is (he was there but I didn't see him), and the best part for me is that I get to put ILM on the Faces Overlooked credits! It doesn't get much fancier than that.

The other big event that we're gearing up for is the San Diego IndieFest! Daddy I Do will be screening there on Friday, March 26th at 3pm. I'm soooo excited for this festival because we are only 1 of 7 features screening! The rest are shorts, music videos, and live bands playing all of Saturday, March 27th. I'm bringing all of the producers, and some of the cast will even be attending this screening! I have 3 people (who are very prominent interviews in Daddy I Do) that will be flying in from all across the country to see the film for the first time! I'm so anxious to hear what they think, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are a bit nervous. Even I get nervous watching myself on the big screen, and I'm an actress! These 3 people opened their hearts and souls, shared their triumphs and struggles for everyone to see. I know their stories have affected so many people, and I just hope they will be as proud of this film as I am.

Besides all of this festival craziness, we're still trying to get in touch with the right people to secure distribution for Daddy I Do. That seems to be the hardest part right now. A good friend of mine who has made the rounds successfully with his feature narrative (went to Sundance, Toronto, Tribeca, etc..) has been mentoring me in marketing and publicity. It's an endless routine of putting eggs in different baskets and hoping a hen (with big connections) will sit on one and make it hatch. One path that may look promising is taking Daddy I Do on a college tour, since this is a film that young people (and especially students studying women's issues, psychology, sociology, and reproductive health) need to watch. Our first college campus screening will be on May 7th at the University of Reno, Nevada! We will be conducting a Q&A and focus group afterwards, which should shed light on what people are taking away from the film. I'm very excited to see how it goes.

Well, that should be enough of an update for now. Until next time ~

Oh, and here are some websites for reference:
